What to journal this summer

bullet journaling

Check out these fun ideas for the summer (or any time of the year). They fit any theme and any season. Grab your journal and let's get started!

1. Create a themed playlist

@mamucatlife

Make a list with songs that hype up the summer! It can also be your favorite songs of the month. Try making a Spotify cover style or an old school iPod to list the songs. You can print out or draw the album covers too!

2. Draw your favorite memories

@lepetitchat96

Summer is filled with new adventure, and what better way to look back than to have them drawn out. If drawing is not your thing don't worry, you can just do simple doodles. If all else fails, remember that you can use photos.

3. Plan out your travel itinerary

@bujoforstars

If you're traveling this season, include your journal in the excitement. Write out your travel plans, where you are going to go, what you need to pack. You can also tape in plan tickets, train tickets or any paper item that reminds you of the trip.

4. Doodle some cute drawings

@bujoabby

Doodling is fun and can also be a stress relief for some people. There are a lot of 'how to doodle' cute things like fruit, vegetable, flowers and more. Add them to your journal, and it can also become as a practice sheet to strengthen drawing skills.

5. Combine fun ideas (fish inside a popsicle!)

@ivanajournals

Flowers inside a lightbulb, clouds inside a bubble tea - these are some wacky and fun ideas to test out. Try playing around with bright color palettes. This is a perfect idea to let loose and allow creativity to flow!

6. Try making a 3D piece

@junnisunxiaomei

Pop up art is not just for cards, it can also work for your journal! Try choosing an object like a flower basket or a Sakura flower and test out ways to create an art piece. If you're unsure of how to do so, try getting inspired by the Instagram profile above.

7. Design a spread with cutouts

@bujowithpau

If you don't like drawing or on the contrary you have drawn too much and want something new, this is the right one for you. Layering cut outs and adding washi tape and stickers is so much fun! Print out some fun illustrations or use magazines to cut out and create almost like a vision board.

8. Make a mood tracker with drawings to color in

@sunshine_journal_

According to the theme of your journal, when making a mood tracker, try implementing a way to color in your moods. It's a different way and at the end it will look colorful!

9. Try painting your favorite movie scenes

@lolastarryart

Use colored pencils, acrylic paint or watercolor paint! Make sure that your journal can hold the medium you choose. If you enjoy anime, you can use your favorite scenes as inspiration. We recommend checking out some Studio Ghibli films due to their amazing illustrations and color combinations.

10. Try making a spread with black pages

@brietron_art

If you have a journal with black pages or black paper, try creating something completely new. Sometimes a black canvas can be intimidating, but just remember that it's for fun. You'll need some markers or pens that are pigmented enough for dark pages!
